The taxi from Sharjah to Dubai is quick to find and fair on a quiet road. At rush hour, with luggage or with a group, the numbers change fast. Here is what to expect.

Taxis in Sharjah run on the meter, and the fare to Dubai depends on how far into Dubai you go and how long you sit in traffic on the way. These are the rough fares per car we see from Sharjah Airport in normal traffic:
| Destination | Road distance, about | Rough fare per car |
|---|---|---|
| Deira and Dubai Airport (DXB) | 25 km | Around AED 70 to 100 |
| Downtown Dubai | 40 km | Around AED 100 to 140 |
| Dubai Marina | 60 km | Around AED 140 to 190 |
From Sharjah city centre, Al Majaz or Al Nahda, the distance into Dubai is a little shorter, so the fare is usually a little lower. From Ajman or the far side of Sharjah it is higher. These figures are for normal traffic. For a live number, use the taxi app’s estimate or ask the driver before you set off.

Get a quoteThe road between Sharjah and Dubai is one of the busiest in the country. On a weekday morning the traffic towards Dubai can crawl from about 06:30 to 09:30, and the reverse runs in the evening. A metered taxi charges for that time, so a 40-minute trip that takes an hour and a half costs a lot more.
Salik toll gates on Dubai’s roads add to the fare when the route passes through one. Night trips, airport pick-ups and booking through an app can also change the starting amount.
The practical lesson: at quiet times the taxi is cheap and fine. At rush hour, the fare becomes hard to predict, and that is when a fixed price starts to look better.
One to three people, light luggage, outside rush hour? Take the taxi. It is the quickest and lowest-cost way, and there is nothing to book.
The same applies to short hops near the border, for example from Al Nahda to Al Qusais, where the fare stays low.
The typical market range for a pre-booked car between Sharjah and Dubai, one way, is AED 120 to 220. For a group, a 7-seater van or a 13-seater van carries everyone and the bags in one go, and the price per person often comes in below two or three taxis.
Example: two people from Al Majaz to Business Bay at 11:00, with a bag each. Take the taxi: at that hour the fare stays close to the table above.
Example: a family of six from Sharjah to Dubai Airport at 07:00 with six suitcases. Two taxis in morning traffic can cost about as much as a van, and the luggage still may not fit. One pre-booked 7-seater van is simpler, and the price is fixed before you leave.
Example: 12 colleagues travelling from Sharjah to the same office in Dubai every working day. Daily taxis cost far more than a shared van. Our Sharjah to Dubai staff transport starts from AED 4,800 per month for a 12 to 15 seat van with a daily return run.
Many people live in Sharjah and work in Dubai. If a group of colleagues takes the same trip daily, a monthly van with a fixed timetable is usually the lowest-cost and calmest way to do it. Read our staff transport page and the staff transport cost guide for the numbers.
Public buses run between Sharjah and Dubai and cost much less than a taxi, but they are slower and stick to fixed routes. Our guide to Sharjah to Dubai by bus explains the options.
For flights from Sharjah, the Sharjah Airport taxi or transfer guide covers arrivals in detail.

Not for one or two people at a quiet time. For a group, lots of luggage or rush hour, a fixed-price car or van often works out cheaper and more predictable.
