Why groups head to Jebel Jais

Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah is the UAE’s highest mountain, and the road to the top is one of the great drives of the Emirates. For groups it makes a full day out: cooler air at the summit, viewing decks over the Hajar range, the zip line and the toboggan for the adventurous, and a long lunch with a view. Companies book Dubai to Jebel Jais bus hire for team days, universities for geography field trips, and families for a winter weekend.

Travelling as one group on one bus also solves the hardest part of a Jebel Jais trip by car: nobody has to drive the mountain road home after a long day outdoors.

Dubai to Jebel Jais: route and timings

From central Dubai, the drive north takes around two to two and a half hours. We usually take the E311 or the E611 through Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, then the Jebel Jais road from the outskirts of Ras Al Khaimah city. The final climb is a well-built mountain road with long sweeping bends; our drivers take it steadily and stop at the lay-bys when the group wants photographs.

Because the round trip alone takes four to five hours, we recommend full-day hire of ten hours. If your group wants a long lunch, the zip line and a coastal stop, ask us to quote extra hours — they are listed before you confirm.

A sample Ras Al Khaimah day

  • 07:00 — pick-up in Dubai
  • 09:30 — arrive at the Jebel Jais viewing deck
  • 10:00 — zip line, toboggan or a walk on the trails, booked directly with the operators
  • 12:30 — lunch on the mountain
  • 14:30 — descend to Ras Al Khaimah for the coast, Dhayah Fort or the old pearling village at Al Jazirat Al Hamra
  • 16:00 — depart for Dubai

Groups who prefer a shorter day often skip the coast and head home after lunch, back in Dubai by mid-afternoon. Groups who want a sunset on the mountain need extra hours and a later return.

Which vehicle for the mountain road?

The Jebel Jais road is used by tour coaches as well as cars, and we choose the vehicle with the climb and the parking at the top in mind. For up to 16 people a Sprinter minibus is the most comfortable choice; for 17 to 30, a mini coach; and for larger groups a 35-seater or 50-seat coach. We confirm the right vehicle for your stops when we quote.

Temperatures at the top can be noticeably cooler than on the coast, especially on winter mornings. Ask the group to bring a warm layer — it is the thing people most often forget.

Combining Jebel Jais with the rest of Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah rewards a slower day. Below the mountain, the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah occupies the old fort in the city centre, the mangroves along the creek make a calm stop for younger groups, and the resorts on Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra have beach clubs and restaurants that suit a long lunch. Most groups pick the mountain plus one stop on the coast; we can quote a longer day if you want both.

For a weekend, groups often stay at a resort in Ras Al Khaimah and do the mountain on the second morning. We can quote the transfers either side and a vehicle for the day in between, or keep one vehicle and driver with you throughout on multi-day hire.

Field trips and team days

For universities and secondary schools, Jebel Jais is a ready-made field trip: the change in rock, vegetation and temperature with altitude, wadis on the way up, and the heritage sites on the coast below. For companies, the zip line and the viewing decks give a team day a shared story, and the long drive is a chance to talk that rarely happens in the office. Every seat has a seat belt, the air-conditioning is checked before departure, and the trip lead receives the driver’s details the day before.

Questions

Frequently asked.

How long does it take to get from Dubai to the top of Jebel Jais?

Around two to two and a half hours from central Dubai, depending on the pick-up point and traffic through Sharjah. Groups starting in Sharjah or Ajman save a little time. We plan the pick-up so you reach the viewing deck in the cooler morning.

Can a full-size coach drive up Jebel Jais?

The Jebel Jais road is a well-built mountain road used by tour coaches. Parking and turning space at some stops is more limited, so we check your planned stops when we quote and suggest the most suitable vehicle for your group size.

Do you book the Jebel Jais zip line?

No. The zip line, toboggan and other attractions are booked directly with their operators, who set their own age, weight and health rules. Send us your confirmed slot times and we will plan the transport around them.

Is Jebel Jais suitable for a school or university trip?

Yes. The mountain geology, the change in climate with altitude and the heritage sites on the coast make it a strong field trip. Every seat has a seat belt and the trip lead receives the driver’s details the day before.

Can we add Al Marjan Island or a beach stop?

Yes. Al Marjan Island and the Ras Al Khaimah coast are easy to add on the way back. Each extra stop adds time, so tell us the plan and we will confirm whether it fits in a ten-hour day or needs extra hours.

Is the mountain road a problem for travel sickness?

The road is wide and well surfaced, but the climb has many long bends. Our drivers keep a steady pace and can stop at lay-bys on the way up. Passengers prone to travel sickness should sit near the front and look ahead.
