Mleiha is where Sharjah’s desert has history under it. Groups come for the archaeology, the rock formations and an evening under the stars, and the road is only about an hour from the city.

Mleiha sits inland in the central region of Sharjah, in open desert between the mountains and the cities. It is not on the way to anywhere. That is the point, and also the reason a group needs a plan before it goes.
Three things draw groups. There is an archaeological centre, with a museum and excavated sites that tell the story of people living and trading here thousands of years ago. There are rock formations and a fossil-rich landscape that schools love. And there is the desert itself, with quiet that is hard to find near Dubai, plus a night sky that is better than the city one by a long way.

Get a quoteFrom central Dubai, allow around an hour by road, a little less from Sharjah. It starts on motorway and ends on a quieter road that crosses open desert, with few services on the last stretch. We suggest a toilet and coffee stop before you leave the main roads, and bottled water on board.
Our coaches and minibuses stay on tarmac. Dune drives, quad bikes and desert camps use their own vehicles. The usual arrangement is that the activity operator meets the group at an agreed point and brings them back to us when they finish.
Times are a template. The centre and every activity operator set their own hours and rules, so confirm yours before you build the plan around them.
Groups who want to be home earlier cut the evening and leave after the rock formations, back in Dubai around 17:30.
Some groups prefer to go late. Leave Dubai around 13:00, reach Mleiha for the golden hour, finish the activities after dark and stay for stargazing. The late return is the cost. Groups should expect to arrive home close to midnight, and the extra hours go on the quote.
This works well for corporate evenings and family gatherings, less well for school groups, who need to be back at a set time. See our tours and desert trips page for how a longer desert programme is planned.
Dune bashing, quad bikes, camel rides, sandboarding, camp dinners and stargazing are all run by licensed operators, not by us. Ask each operator for its licence and insurance details, its age, height and health rules, and where its guests are collected. Check that the meeting point can take your vehicle, and tell us if it cannot.
Send us your confirmed slots and we plan the transport around them. If an activity cancels for weather or safety, we help the group re-plan on the day.
Winter, from November to March, is the season. Days are mild and evenings can feel properly cold in the open desert, so bring a layer for after sunset. From May to September, the middle of the day is too hot for most outdoor visits, and the plan should shift to an early morning or a late afternoon start.
Wear closed shoes with grip, a hat and sunglasses. Bring water and a scarf or light cover for wind and sun. Dust and sand get into everything, so carry a bag for dirty clothes.
Al Dhaid is a green town on the edge of the desert, known for its farms and its fort. A short stop works as a warm-up or a lunch break. For groups who care more about local life than archaeology, it can anchor a half day on its own, with a farm visit and a local meal.
Starting from Sharjah? Bus rental in Sharjah explains how we collect from the city, University City and the industrial areas.
Up to 16 people ride comfortably in a Sprinter. For 17 to 30, a 30-seater. For larger groups a 35-seater or a 50-seater coach. Desert-side car parks and meeting points can be tight, so we check them when we quote and suggest a smaller vehicle if needed. The bus size guide helps with seat counts.
The price is quoted for your route, hours and date, in writing, with extra hours shown before you confirm. Send the headcount, pick-up point, date and the activities you have booked through the booking form. If you are comparing it with a mountain day, our Hatta by bus guide covers the other inland option.
Sized for the group, and for the car parks at the end of the road.

Nimble 30-seater for school gates, weddings and staff runs.

Thirty-five seats with real luggage holds for tours and delegates.

It suits older students studying history, geology or the environment. Plan a return before dark, and check the venue’s age rules and consent requirements.
No. Operators run them under their own licences, and you book directly. We plan the transport around your confirmed times.
Yes, with a late return. The extra hours go on the written quote, and the group should expect to be home late.
November to March, when days are mild. In summer, choose early morning or late afternoon and avoid midday.
We would not. Each day is long on its own. Choose Mleiha or an east-coast day, and read our east coast group day trip if you want the sea instead.
